Award for “Retour à Gorée” at EU XXL film in Krems
01.03.2008
The documentary film “Retour à Gorée” by Swiss director Pierre-Yves Borgeaud (production: CAB Production, Lausanne and DreamPixies, Vevey) was honoured with the Audience Award at EU XXL film in Krems on March 1, 2008. Pierre-Yves Borgeaud attended the Forum and Festival of European Film to receive the prize, amounting to 5,000 euros.
The “Forum and Festival of European Film” (February 26 – March 2, 2008) was initiated by Austrian actress and former EU-politician Mercedes Echerer in 2003. This year marked its third edition, which was devoted to film music. Apart from the discussion platforms in the Forum and Dialog sections of the festival, the Film Screening section presented ten films in which music played a key role. An audience jury, comprised of friends of European film from Lower Austria, selected “Retour à Gorée“ as the winner of the prize.
In “Retour à Gorée”, film director Pierre-Yves Borgeaud accompanied the renowned Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour on his epic journey, tracing slavery – and jazz music – from the West African island of Gorée to the USA and then to Europe. The prize in Krems is the already fourth award for the documentary film. The film will be released in cinemas in France (distributor: Hevadis Films) and the USA (distributor: ArtMattan) at the beginning of April.
