Georges Schwizgebel’s seven-minute animation film “Romance” was honoured with the award for Best Short Film at the 31st “Anima” animation film festival in Brussels (February 17-26, 2012). The Genevan doyen accepted the award personally at the ceremony on February 26. In addition, seven Swiss animation film productions and coproductions were screened in various festival competitions. At this oldest and most important animation film festival in Belgium, SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency, also presented 50 Swiss films of this genre in a retrospective called “La Suisse s’anime.”
The three-member international jury presented the award to Schwizgebel for his film “Romance” together with a software programme designed specifically for animation filmmakers. The film “Romance” celebrated its premiere last year on the Piazza Grande in Locarno and has since been screened at 20 festivals and honoured with five awards. The Swiss-Canadian coproduction is about the dreams of an airplane passenger who has fallen asleep. “Romance” is one of the five short animation film productions nominated for the 32nd edition of The Genie Awards, awarded in Toronto by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television Film on March 8.
