Acting prize for the “Standesbeamtin” in Montreal

The 29-year-old Swiss actress Marie Leuenberger who plays the leading role in the film “Die Standesbeamtin”, wins the Award for the Best Actress at the 33rd Festival des Films du Monde in Montreal (27 August to 7 September 2009). This prize is international recognition for Micha Lewinsky’s marriage comedy which has been seen by more than 65,000 people since its premiere in Swiss cinemas in March.
Born in 1980 in Berlin, Marie Leuenberger played at the “Jungen Theater Basel” from 1996 to 1999. Following her training in acting at the Otto-Falckenberg School in Munich (1999 – 2002), she was an ensemble member at the Bavarian State Theatre and made a guest appearance as Peter Pan at the Theater Basel in 2003 (director: Rafael Sanchez). In 2004/2005, she worked at the State Theatre Stuttgart and since then has been playing at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. In 2007 she was awarded the Young Actor Prize by the Friends of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus. “Die Standesbeamtin” is Leuenberger’s screen debut. Prior to this, her work in front of the camera was limited to a brief appearance in the Oscar-nominated short film “Auf der Strecke”.



The film “Die Standesbeamtin”, produced for Swiss television by the Langfilm company in Freienstein, had its premiere in Swiss cinemas on 19 March and has since been seen by over 65,000 cinema visitors making it no. 1 in the national cinema successes (distribution: Walt Disney). The DVD edition of the film will be launched this month by Praesens Film. Its cinema premiere in Germany is scheduled for 22 October (distribution: Schwarz-Weiss).



The 33rd Festival des Films du Monde, which ended on 7 September, showed a total of 457 films from 78 countries, including 240 long films. Switzerland presented six films and two short films.
