6th SHORT FILM NIGHT TOUR

28.03.2008

SWISS FILMS presents a selection of the best short films from Switzerland and abroad: against the background of success in previous years, the 6th edition of the Short Film Night will make a grand tour throughout Switzerland, with stops in various cities in the German-, French- and Italian-speaking regions of Switzerland.
The aim of the tour is to render the short masterpieces accessible to a broad audience. The steady increase in the tour’s attendance figures is more than enough proof that the short film genre is growing: not in length but in popularity and mass appeal. The long night of short films highlights a number of fiction and animation films, documentary films and experimental works along with award-winning short films. The films are presented in four thematic sections, whose programs were compiled in collaboration with short film festivals and promoting agents.

Local premieres lend each individual Short Film Night its own unique character and serve to whet the viewer’s appetite for more short film works of art. The tour starts in Zurich, where the audience can look forward to the new short film “Monsieur Selavy” by Peter Volkart, whose “Terra Incognita” caused a sensation.

The “Quartz – Swiss Film Prize 2008” section – practically a traditional by now – showcases all of the short films that were nominated for the Swiss Film Prize 2008. Naturally, among the films being screened is this year’s winner, Reto Caffi’s short film “Auf der Strecke”, which was awarded the “Quartz” by the jury.

The title of the “Music’s in the Air” section is also the star of the program, with music in the leading role. The third section, “Mach doch was du willst” (Do what you want), features a series of films which deal with the future of the working world and are at once humorous, profound and visionary. The Short Film Night will also make a trip to Austria, entirely fitting as the co-host of EURO 2008, dedicating the “Servus Sissi” section to our neighbour as the conclusion of the four-part series.

Food and drinks are served at the event, which runs until the early morning hours.

The Short Film Night Tour 2008 starts on April 4 at the Arthouse Le Paris and Arthouse Piccadilly cinemas in Zurich. Additional events will be held thereafter in Basel (April 11) / St. Gallen (April 18) / Schaffhausen (April 25) / Aarau (April 26) / Chur (May 2) / Lucerne (May 16) and Bern (May 30).

In autumn 2008 the Short Film Night will continue its tour in various cities in the Romandie and in Ticino.

The Short Film Night Tour is a national project organized by SWISS FILMS.
