Poland is the focus country for film programmes intermediated by SWISS FILMS in 2013. Swiss film productions will now be the focus of a special programme in Krakow. In addition, eight Swiss productions will be screened in the International Competition of this festival, which ranks among the oldest in Europe. “Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction” will open the festival on May 26; one day thereafter “Hiver nomade” will kick off the “Focus on Switzerland!!” programme.

The Krakow Film Festival (May 26 - June 2, 2013) is one of the oldest festivals for documentary and short films in Europe. The Swiss director Sophie Huber will open the 53rd edition of the festival with her portrait of the iconic actor Harry Dean Stanton.

Yodelling men, American virgins and winter nomads
This year’s festival features the “Focus on Switzerland!” programme showcasing current Swiss documentary filmmaking; the focus was on Italy, the Netherlands or Israel in previous years. The Swiss programme comprises seven films film and opens with “Hiver nomade,” with the film’s director Manuel von Stürler in attendance. Also screened in the programme will be “Die Wiesenberger” by Bernard Weber and Martin Schilt, “Le monde est comme ça” by Fernand Melgar and “Virgin Tales” by Mirjam von Arx. Rolando Colla, Peter Entell and Daniel Young will attend the festival to present their most recent films personally.

Argerich, Stanton and a holy man in competition
“Sâdhu,” Gaël Métroz’s portrayal of a holy man of Hinduism, will be screened in the Documentary Film Competition, whereas Stéphanie Argerich’s portrait “Argerich” will be presented in the DocFilmMusic Competition together with “Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction.”
Two fiction films, one documentary film and two animation films will be screened in the Short Film Competition. In addition, the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD) will be presented in the Student Etudes Night pr0gramme with six short film productions.

Clara and Kinder vom Napf
The extraordinary Swiss presence in Krakow is rounded off with “Clara und das Geheimnis der Bären” and “Die Kinder vom Napf,” which will be screened in the Kids & Youth Fest. Twelve Swiss filmmakers will attend the screening of their works.

Poland is the country of focus for film programmes intermediated by SWISS FILMS in 2013. Furthermore, three major film festivals devote their attention to Swiss filmmaking between May and July. Films by Peter Mettler (retrospective), Markus Imhoof, Peter Liechti, Barbara Miller, Stefan Haupt, among others, were screened in Warsaw until mid-May. The innovative New Horizons International Film Festival in Wroclaw will present a programme comprised of Swiss music documentaries in July.
