In the late 1950s, Marlena lives in the remote Tessin village of Vogorno with her sister and nephew. When a stranger with a camera arrives and a letter shakes the valley, she learns that a massive dam is to be built, displacing her village. While some place their hope in progress, Marlena wants to fight. Amid political conflict and quiet affection, she decides to stay and fight for the land she calls home.
Alla fine degli anni '50, Marlena vive nel remoto villaggio ticinese di Vogorno con sua sorella e suo nipote. Quando un estraneo con una macchina fotografica arriva e una lettera scuote la valle, scopre che verrà costruita una gigantesca diga, costringendo il villaggio a scomparire. Mentre alcuni ripongono la loro speranza nel progresso, Marlena vuole lottare. Tra conflitti politici e affetto silenzioso, decide di rimanere e combattere per la sua terra.
