How and why does anyone become a Paul Sacher? This film portrait, which takes the form of an interrogation, focuses on one of the most important music patrons of the 20th century, who commissioned more than 300 oeuvres. The film takes a number of at times contradictory approaches in an effort to get to the bottom of a public man who was also very secret. As well as a patron of the arts, Sacher was an orchestra conductor, a director of musical institutions, and a magnate of the chemical industry (Hoffmann-La Roche). Through him the film attempts to shed a certain amount of light on the economic aspects of a modern nation's musical life and the way finance brings artistic creation to life. It also looks at the changing relations between the arts and money, between artists, money and power.
