Christian Zeender’s film follows the events leading up to the fall of Georgian president and former UDSSR foreign minister Eduard Schewadnadse, and the subsequent takeover of power by 36-year old attorney Michail Saakashwili. Zeender, a long-time resident in Georgia, follows Saakashwili, into far flung regions such as Ossetien or Adjarien. There Saakashwili challenges his old enemy and local despot Aslan Abaschidse in a determined bid to stamp out the all too present corruption that was tolerated by Saakashwili’s predecessor. Always at his side his wife Sandra, of Dutch extraction, who actively supports his fight. Zeender ventures where few filmmakers have gone, taking a fascinating journey into a land full of surprises on the border between Europe and Asia.
