Mannheim – New York
Switzerland / Germany / Luxembourg, January 2001
FILM,
Documentary,
90 min.
The film is a portrait of Mannheim and its rock, pop and jazz musicians who have kept the local music scene up to date since the post-war era. Many of them have shaped their own relationship to New York, the metropolis of music, for “little America” lies at Mannheim's doorstep due to the American GI's. The music scene actually portrays itself in the film with sketches of concerts, memories and success stories of musicians, including Jule Neigel, “Söhne Mannheims” – the current favourite of the public, Mani Neumeier, Hans Reffert, Bernd Köhler, Anke Helfrich, Jochen Breuer, the Indonesian Revival Band, and the legendary Joy Fleming.
