The scarlet poodle is a dream figure that appears to the film's narrator in the form of an avatar. The narrator soon sees him everywhere in the city. The figure also does not leave him alone in his dreams. Finally, there is a confrontation in which the narrator learns more about his identity and the scarlet poodle learns more about true friendship.
