Morocco's mythical city Tanger has given inspiration to some of the 20th century's greatest artists, writers and musicians. In search of the Tanger magic, filmmaker Daniel Calderon follows in the footsteps of Tanger's most notorious literary figureheads Paul Bowles and the American Beat Poets, who are portrayed amongst movie and music stars. Starting at the famous Hotel Continental, the film paints a fascinating portrait of Tanger's hedonistic heyday, with archival material and vivid first-hand accounts from contemporaries like the reknowned Moroccan writer Mohamed Choukri. Calderon's film succeeds in evoking the mystery and magic of Tanger's past without ignoring its future: a unique literary and musical heritage that combines Arab and African cultures.
