Thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cable glide from the deck of a cable ship into the dark depths of the ocean. The Filipino crew battles loneliness on the high seas – their smartphones are the only fragile connection to home. The internet cable reaches a remote island in Alaska, bringing faster data streams and the shining promise of a connected future for the local community. The film explores the complicated relationship between modern technology, hard physical labour, and human longing.
