Paul, a 28-year-old who apparently leads a stable independent life suddenly decides to kidnap his father, the celebrated author Léo Shepherd, as the latter sets off for Stockholm to receive a prize for literature. For several days the world believes Léo Shepherd has met a sudden death. On their journey together the two men take each other’s measure, exchange threats, harass each other, exchange blows. They also attempt to humiliate each other, to rebel. They make solemn agreements which they break almost immediately. They exchange accusations, confessions. The film is an energetic attempt to simultaneously entertain and enlighten every young man who at one stage or another has thought fondly about killing his father, and every young girl who ever dreamed that one day she would marry him.
