“It is good that we have the earth, and it is also good that we have the heavens. They say that the heavens are where god usually lives. And when it rains, the heavens are grey or black”, said 10-year-old Bao-Uyen in 1994. “…I presume to take advantage of your innate self-sacrificing kindness. The films need to have the rain extracted from them; this would be doing us a great favour because our equipment is worn out. I have heard that a new means of extraction the rain by a small machine has been invented”, wrote the Jesuit priest, film presenter and film collector Abbé Joye to his colleague Sylvine Anklin in 1914. “We are now in the seventh heaven – yes, the seventh art – the seventh heaven”, said Joye on the phone to Mr Bondieu in 1995.
