Two short film productions from Switzerland will be screened in the International Competition of the 34th International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand (January 27 ¬- February 4, 2012): Rolando Colla’s subjective film “Einspruch VI”; and the 40-minute documentary film “Retour à Mandima” by Robert-Jan Lacombe. The two films are celebrating their international premiere in capital city of the Auvergne Region. The festival is the world’s largest festival for short films, with 14 international programmes and its own film market.

With "Einspruch VI", Rolando Colla presents his sixth film "protesting" violations of human rights. The film is told from the perspective of an asylum-seeker whose rejected application ultimately leads to a tragic deportation. In the film "Retour à Mandima" Robert-Jan Lacombe, a graduate from the ECAL film school in Lausanne, continues the reflections he had begun in his previous short film "Kwa Heri Mandima," which was honoured with a "Pardino d'Oro" in Locarno. The film elucidates the director's relationship to his birthplace in northeast Zaire, which he left 15 years ago.

The French-Swiss coproduction "Le ciel en bataille" by Rachid B. will be screened in the National Competition, with two further Swiss film productions in parallel festival sections: Anthony Vouardoux's "Yuri Lennon's Landing on Alpha 46," which won the "Quartz 2011" for Best Short Film and already won an award last year in Clermont-Ferrand; and the animation film "Julia und der Schrecken" by Anja Sidler.

The directors of the selected works will present their films personally in Clermont-Ferrand. SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency, will be present with a stand at the film market which attracts some 3,000 accredited film professionals. With nearly 150,000 viewers, the film festival in Clermont-Ferrand is the second largest in France.
