The 31st International Animated Film Festival in Annecy, taking place from June 11 – 16, 2007, will present six Swiss films. The film “Max & Co”, which is the first long work by brothers Frédéric and Samuel Guillaume (Saga Productions, Lausanne, and le studio Cinémagination, Fribourg) and co-produced by Switzerland, will be part of the competition for feature-length films, while “Jeu/Play” by Georges Schwizgebel is in the running for a prize in the short film category. In the competition section for student films, two productions by the HGK Lucerne will be shown, “The Cleaner” by Dustin Rees, and “Botteoubateau” by Marina Rosset.
“Max & Co” will be celebrating its world premiere in Annecy. Among the actors who lent their voices to the French original version are Laurent Deutsch, Patrick Bouchitey, and Denis Podalydès. Along with eight additional films, the French, Belgian, and British co-production is competing for the prize of the “Cristal du long métrage”. After its premiere in Annecy, “Max & Co” will be shown on the Piazza Grande as one of the August 7th highlights at the 60th Locarno International Film Festival (August 1 – 11, 2007). The producers of the film are currently negotiating the film’s theatrical release in Switzerland for the end of the year with the distribution company Buena Vista International.

The short animated films “Not the End” by Clemens Steiger, and “Schenglet” by Laurent Nègre round out the Swiss presence in Annecy. SWISS FILMS will celebrate the films’ participation at the festival with a reception on June 13 with Swiss directors in attendance.

Founded in 1960, the Animated Film Festival in Annecy counts among the most important animated film events worldwide, along with Zagreb, Hiroshima, and Ottawa. An international market for animated films also attracts film professional from around the world (June 13 – 15, 2007).
