Swiss feature films and short films with world premieres at the film festival DOK Leipzig

A total of 14 short and feature-length film productions will represent Swiss documentary and animation filmmaking at the 62nd edition of the renowned DOK Leipzig, the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (October 28 – November 3, 2019). Five films have been selected for screening in competition programmes and will celebrate their premieres in Leipzig.

A total of 14 short and feature-length film productions will represent Swiss documentary and animation filmmaking at the 62nd edition of the renowned DOK Leipzig, the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (October 28 – November 3, 2019). Five films have been selected for screening in competition programmes and will celebrate their premieres in Leipzig.

Three feature-length documentary films will celebrate their world premieres in Leipzig this year: Robin Harsch’s UNDER THE SKIN (Alva Film Production); Katharina Weingartner’s THE FEVER; and Marcus Vetter’s THE FORUM (Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion).

Both the world premiere THE FORUM by Marcus Vetter and the european premiere MY ENGLISH COUSIN by Karim Sayad (Close Up Films) are selected for the international Competition. Sayad’s documentary film celebrated its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Robin Harsch’s UNDER THE SKIN (Next Masters Competition) will also be screened in competition.

Further films will be screened in the International Programme: BIRD ISLAND by Maya Kosa and Sergio Da Costa; OUR LUCKY HOURS by Martine Deyres (Visions du Réel 2019, Nyon Special Mention – National Competition); TASTE OF HOPE by Laura Coppens; the Austrian-Swiss coproduction THE FEVER by Katharina Weingartner; as well as Jacqueline Zünd’s WHERE WE BELONG. Zünd’s documentary film celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale and was honoured with the Zwierciadło Award for the Best Film on Psychology 2019 at the Warsaw Docs Against Gravity Film Festival.

Five Swiss short films in Leipzig

Two Swiss films will be screened in the International Short Film Competition: the animation film AVERAGE HAPPINESS by Maja Gehrig (Langfilm) and the documentary film BIRDS OF PARADISE by Aline Suter and Céline Carridroit (Earthling Productions). Three short animation films – A TIGER WITH NO STRIPES by Raul Robin Morales Reyes, HOME SWEET HOME by Chaïtane Conversat and THE LAST DAYS OF AUTUMN by Marjolaine Perreten – have been selected for screening in the Kids DOK programme. The festival will screen Aline Höchli’s animation film WHY SLUGS HAVE NO LEGS in the International Programme Short Film.
