«Sonita» goes Sundance

Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami’s “Sonita”, coproduced by Aline Schmid, Intermezzo Films, was selected for the International Documentary Competition of the renowned Sundance Film Festival, which takes place in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah (January 21-31, 2016).

The German-Swiss-Iranian coproduction offers insight into the life of an 18-year-old Afghan migrant living sans papier in Iran. She hopes to fulfil her dream career as a rapper as a way of escaping from her family, who is planning to sell her into a marriage to a husband she has never met.

Sonita” celebrated its premiere in the International Competition at the prestigious IDFA International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (November 18-29, 2015), where the striking documentary film was honoured with two awards: the Audience Award and the youth jury’s DOC U Award. Furthermore, “Sonita” had the most viewers at the IDFA Docs for Sale Market.
