Series Mania Festival 2024

Swiss series producers at the largest series market

07.03.2024

SWISS FILMS, in collaboration with SRG SSR, is offering new Swiss series and the series industry a platform at the Festival Series Mania in Lille (March 15-22, 2024). SWISS FILMS and the media company SRG SSR are entering a new partnership to promote Swiss series, aiming to increase the visibility of Swiss series on the international market.

The goal of the cooperation is to give Swiss series and talents greater prominence on the most important specialised markets. With the financial and professional support of SRG SSR, SWISS FILMS can expand its consultancy services to include the international promotion of Swiss series as well as its network and expertise in the series sector. At the beginning of March, Romina Ortega joined SWISS FILMS as a consultant in charge of series releases, among other things.

SWISS FILMS and SRG SSR had already organised a showcase as part of the Berlinale Series Market, where the successful series DAVOS 1917 was presented as a case study.

Swiss series at Series Mania

The Festival Series Mania is the largest event in Europe dedicated exclusively to series. As a part of the Series Mania Forum industry event, approximately 4000 international professionals from the TV and series industry meet for pitching, networking and conferences.

The French-Swiss series CEUX QUI ROUGISSENT (Swiss production: Box Productions, RTS) will celebrate its world premiere in the official festival programme in the Formats Courts competition. Swiss producer Azra Djurdjevic (Filmgerberei) will pitch her series project THE JOB CENTER in the Forum as part of the Series Women section.

As a part of the forum, SWISS FILMS and SRG SSR have invited Swiss series creators under the “Swiss Series” label to a networking event with international industry representatives, including buyers, TV broadcasters, streaming platforms and TV editors.

A selection of series producers from French-speaking Switzerland have been invited by the USPA (Union Syndicale de la Production Audiovisuelle), Sodec (Société de développement des entreprises culturelles, Québec), hub.brussels and SWISS FILMS to take part in Unifrance’s “Journée Internationale de la Francophonie”, an exclusive coproduction meeting with producers from Belgium, France, Quebec and Francophone Afrika.

SWISS FILMS will present a current selection of new series from Swiss production companies that have been coproduced with SRG SSR and its enterprise units SRF, RTS and RSI, including WINTER PALACE (directed by Pierre Monnard), the first Netflix series coproduced with RTS, and the comedy ESPÈCE MENACÉE by Bruno Deville, coproduced by Rita Productions for RTS.

Data on Swiss series

SWISS FILMS has been systematically registering and publishing data on Swiss series at www.swissfilms.ch since 2023, rendering a diverse range of Swiss series visible on the web. Swiss Series provides an overview of the latest Swiss series on the market or series in production.

With these new activities, SWISS FILMS is actively addressing new market developments: Audiences’ viewing habits are changing. The series market has become an increasingly important source of income for Swiss production companies, filmmakers and film technicians.
