SWISS FILMS industry information in Solothurn

20.01.2023

During the Solothurn Film Festival, SWISS FILMS presented the most important results of its industry survey. At the same time, the promotion agency outlined its goals and latest initiatives for 2023.

The non-representative survey was sent by email to over 2,000 film professionals in Switzerland and was published on the SWISS FILMS website and social media. With the survey, SWISS FILMS aims to take the pulse of the industry and offer film professionals the opportunity to their provide feedback and input.

The survey was conducted for the second time in 2023. More than 300 professionals (200 in the previous year) from all sectors in the industry took part and answered questions about how they perceive the international promotion of Swiss film productions as well as the services offered by SWISS FILMS.

As in the previous year, the greatest challenges remained international competition, the decline of attendance in cinemas, the streaming boom and relations with the EU. The impact of the pandemic is no longer cited as a challenge. Rated as particularly helpful among the services offered by SWISS FILMS are festival support, personal consulting services and the SWISS FILMS portal database. From the film industry’s point of view, our industry events, website and newsletters make a significant contribution to promotion and communication, together with personal networks. Over 70% of the participants state that they are satisfied or very satisfied with the work of SWISS FILMS.

The results of the survey reinforce SWISS FILMS’ intention to further pursue its digital strategy in international communication. The focus is on enhancing the website with relevant content and current stories as well as opening up new target groups by means of new newsletter formats.

In terms of industry activities, SWISS FILMS 2023 will concentrate on the further development of curated programmes on digital channels as well as on bolstering and profiling new international activities – such as the first Swiss Series Preview in collaboration with SRG at the Berlinale Series Market or the Swiss Immersion Support. With the latter, SWISS FILMS 2023 specifically supports the presence of Swiss XR projects at selected festivals worldwide. Great importance is also attached to continuing the cooperation with European Film Promotion, which enables Swiss talents to participate in various European promotion programmes.

SWISS FILMS would like to conduct another online survey next year.
