Impact Accelerator

The “Impact Accelerator” is a pilot measure with the aim to support international impact campaigns for selected Swiss projects in the context of social change by providing financial resources and sharing our expertise.

How can films reach the largest possible audience interested in specific topics involving social change, without using mainstream distribution channels?

GOALS OF THE IMPACT ACCELERATOR

  • Support international impact campaigns and unconventional distribution channels that aim to promote social change.
  • Connect Swiss producers with international partners in the field of impact campaigning
  • Expand and share the expertise of Swiss producers

With the “Impact Campaigning” pilot measure developed in 2022, SWISS FILMS aims to support targeted group-specific, innovative distribution strategies. In a first phase (2022-23), the campaigns for three projects which initiated varying social discourses were supported with a total of CHF 30,000 over the course of two years.

SWISS FILMS has been working together with The StoryBoard Collective since spring 2024. The Geneva-based organisation supports projects that use audiovisual storytelling for social transformation.

Following an open call, SWISS FILMS and The StoryBoard Collective have jointly selected three projects to be supported by the Impact Accelerator from 2024 to 2025. In addition to the financial backing and the expertise of The StoryBoard Collective, the project leaders will receive a workshop as well as follow-up coaching with impact producer Vivian Schroeder (founder of Good Pitch, co-director of Dokumentale Berlin) teil.

WHICH PROJECTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SUPPORT?

  • Swiss productions and Swiss majority coproductions officially approved by the Federal Office of Culture (FOC).
  • Creative auteur films with a minimum length of 60 minutes.
  • Projects with strong international potential, on a specific topic and in a specific area.
  • Projects must have secured the majority of their production budget.
  • Projects that have neither a world sales agent nor a distributor at the time of application.
  • Projects that are primarily interested in attracting impact partners and in advice from our main partner.
  • Projects must complete their impact campaign within 18 months as of the signing of the grant.

The “Impact Accelerator” is a pilot initiative that can be changed or revised by SWISS FILMS at any time. The next call for submissions is scheduled for 2026.
