The Swiss documentary film “Ya Sharr Mout” by Sabine Gisiger (Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) won the award for the best portrait at the 28th Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA) in Montreal (18 to 28 March 2010). The five-man jury of creative artists awarded a total of ten prizes. The director Sabine Gisiger received her award personally on 27 March at the festival’s closing ceremony. The award-winning works will subsequently be presented at renowned cultural institutions in Europe and North America.
The film “Ya Sharr Mout” by Sabine Gisiger follows a Lebanese-Swiss cultural project initiated by the Berne-based musician Mahmoud Turkmani.
The films awarded prizes at the FIFA will now be shown at prominent cultural institutions as part of an international tour, for example at the Louvre in Paris, the AIA/Center for Architecture, the Mid-Manhattan Library and Morgan Library in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the art museums in Québec and Ottawa as well as at the Tate Modern in London.
This year, the Montreal festival, which is reserved exclusively for films on art, presented 230 films from 23 countries. 43 films from 14 countries took part in the competitions.
