Viennale spotlights Swiss documentary films
20.10.2009
Four Swiss documentary films will be screened at the 47th Viennale – Vienna International Film Festival (October 22-November 4, 2009). The festival showcases a cross-section of the more challenging films from the international festival circuit, thus underpinning the international status that Swiss documentary films occupy.
Peter Liechti, who was recently honoured with the European Film Award “Prix Arte for Best Documentary Film”, will present his film “The Sound Of Insects” personally to the audience of Austria’s most important festival, which screens more than 300 films of all genres and attracts some 90,000 visitors every year. Also attending the festival in Vienna will be Vadim Jendreyko with his film “Die Frau mit den 5 Elefanten”, which won an award at the Festival Visions du Réel in Nyon. Also screened at the Viennale will be the music film “sounds and silence – unterwegs mit Manfred Eicher” by Peter Guyer and Norbert Wiedmer, which celebrated its premiere at the Piazza Grande in Locarno, as well as Véronique Goël’s 16-minute essay film “So Long No See”, an homage to sound engineer Luc Yersin, who died prematurely in 2008.
