Three Swiss short films in Palm Springs
13.09.2005
At the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films (USA), taking place from September 20-26, 2005, the movies “Hi Maya” by Claudia Lorenz (Production: Zurich School of Art and Design), “Mr. Goldstein” by Micha Lewinsky (Production: Langfilm, Freienstein), and “La nuit et tous les autres jours” (Night and all the other days) by Eric Grant (Production: Idipfilms, Carouge), will be part of the competition. The festival honors short films and parallels the renowned Palm Springs feature film festival. Prizes will be bestowed in eight categories. The festival, held at the legendary desert resort in Southern California, is known to be a steppingstone to the Academy Awards.
The selected movies are shown within various thematic programs. “Mr. Goldstein”, which won the “Pardino d’Oro” in Locarno and is prominently cast with Lukas Ammann and Johanna Bantzer, will be presented as part of the “Memory Lane” program. “La nuit et tous les autres jours” will screen in “Lost in Lust”, and the award-winning “Hi Maya” will be shown in “Girls on Girls.” “Hi Maya” has previously won the Priz UIP and the Panorama audience award at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Films awarded at Palm Springs automatically can be nominated for the Academy Awards. Last year, six films out of the festival program entered the Oscars. The Palm Springs Short Film Festival, which also includes a film market for short films, is considered one of the most important short film festivals in North America.
