Three Swiss short films at Flickerfest in Sydney
07.01.2009
This year’s first major rendezvous for short films takes place in Sydney (Australia). Three Swiss films will be screened in the international competition of the 18th International Short Film Festival Flickerfest (January 9-18, 2009). Reto Caffi’s multiple award-winning fiction film “Auf der Strecke”, together with Peter Volkart’s surreal film “Monsieur Sélavy” and the animation film “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun, is in the running for the “Coopers Award”, amounting to $5,000. The two directors Reto Caffi and Frank Braun have received support from the promotion agency SWISS FILMS to travel to Australia and present their films personally at the festival.
The two short films “Auf der Strecke” and “Monsieur Sélavy” will celebrate their Australian premieres in Sydney. Film director and graphic designer Peter Volkart is actually presenting his second short film at the Flickerfest with “Monsieur Sélavy”: his previous film “Terra Incognita” – screened around the globe – participated in this festival in 2006.
The Flickerfest in Sydney presents Australian and international short films. Eighty-four films, selected from 1,350 submissions, are showcased in 14 various programmes. Since its inception 18 years ago, this festival has evolved into the most important event for the short genre in Oceania. In addition, it is the only festival in Australia whose short film competition is accredited by the Academy Award of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Following the festival, a selection of Australian and international short films will tour 18 cities in Australia between January and March 2009.
