Three Swiss nominated for German Film Critics Award

The two cinematographers Rainer Klausmann and Stéphane Kuthy and musician Fabian Römer have been nominated for the German Film Critic Award 2009, which will be presented at the Berlinale in February. The winner of the award is decided by the 300 members of the German Film Critics Association and is presented in nine categories to German debut and documentary films and to actresses, actors, cinematographers, film editors, screenwriters and musicians.
The 60-year-old Rainer Klausmann has been nominated for his cinematography in Fatih Akin’s film “Soul Kitchen”. Klausmann already won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale and the German Camera Award with Fatih Akin’s “Gegen die Wand” in 2004. Rainer Klausmann has worked as an independent cinematographer since 1981 and shot numerous films with Swiss directors, including Jean-François Amiguet, Hans Liechti, Steff Gruber and Urs Odermatt. He has completed eight films for the cinema and television with Markus Imboden.
Stéphane Kuthy, who studied at the DAVI film school in Lausanne, has been nominated for his cinematography in Bettina Oberli’s film “Tannöd”, a German-Swiss coproduction. The 41-year-old cinematographer has shot films mainly with Swiss directors: with his partner Bettina Oberli as well as with Christoph Schaub, Stefan Haupt, Vadim Jendreyko and Matthias von Gunten.
The 36- year-old Fabian Römer has been nominated for his soundtrack for Anno Saul’s film “Die Tür”. The multi-award-winning musician has composed soundtracks for many Swiss films for television since 2006, including Tobias Ineichen’s “Jimmie”, Manuel Siebenmann’s “Nebenwirkungen” and Judith Kennel’s “Briefe und andere Geheimnisse”.
