A diverse selection of current short films from Switzerland will be screened in various festival sections of the Short Film Festival Winterthur (Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, November 2-12, 2017). Five Swiss films have been selected for the International Competition. SWISS FILMS will participate in a number of industry events.

Seventeen short film productions from Switzerland will be screened in the Swiss Competition, including: the Swiss premiere of FACING MECCA by Jan-Eric Mack, who was honoured with a Student Oscar in October; LA BATAILLE DE SAN ROMANO by Georges Schwizgebel; and Elodie Dermange’s animation film INTIMITY, which had just celebrated its world premiere at DOK Leipzig.

Five short films have been selected for screening in both the Swiss and the International Competition: JE FAIS OÙ TU ME DIS by Marie de Maricourt; the animation film KUCKUCK by Aline Höchli; the documentary film LIGNE NOIRE by Mark Olexa and Francesca Scalisi; PARADES by Sarah Arnold; and SATAN by Carlos Tapia Gonzalez.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences admitted Kurzfilmtage to the circle of Oscar-qualifying film festivals in 2014. As a result, the winners of the main awards (with the exception of documentary) are eligible for an Oscar nomination.

Bachelor students from HEAD, ECAL, HSLU Art & Design and ZHdK will present themselves with a current short film programme in the Swiss Film School Day section. The jury of the Swiss Competition gives the students feedback and presents the award for the Best Swiss School Film.

SWISS FILMS active at the Industry Events

Kurzfilmtage and FOCAL, in collaboration with Swiss Perform and SWISS FILMS, will present the Industry Lab, which offers a wide range of networking events for the short film industry aimed at fostering exchange between funders, directors, producers and international industry representatives.
