Swiss presence at the 53rd Berlin International Film Festival
27.01.2003
In contrast to previous years where there was a Swiss presence in most festival programs, at this year’s 53rd Berlin International Film Festival, only a small number of Swiss productions will be shown. “Mutter” (Mother) by Miklos Gimes (Production: T&C Film, Zurich) will be presented at the 33rd International Forum for Young Film. Mona Fueter, who received the 2003 Swiss Film Prize, represents Switzerland at the “Shooting Stars” event, organized by the European Film Promotion, which takes place for the sixth time in the context of the Berlinale and provides a forum for young acting talents from 19 European countries.
“Kiki & Tiger” by Alain Gsponer will be shown in the festival program Perspektive Deutsches Kino (Perspective: German Cinema). This film recently received two awards at the Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival in Saarbruecken. At the 26th Kinderfilmfest (Children’s Film Fest), Zurich School of Art and Design-graduate Tim Geser’s short “Un momento” (Just a moment) will be shown. Films such as “Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross – Dem Tod ins Gesicht sehen” (E.K.R. – To look death in the face) by Stefan Haupt, “Gambling, Gods, and LSD” by Peter Mettler, and “Oltre il confine” (Beyond the border) by Rolando Colla will be introduced at the European Film Market event.
Actress Mona Fueter, who received the Swiss Film Prize on January 22, 2003, will participate in various workshops and meetings with producers and casting agents. “Europe’s New Acting Talents” have an opportunity to present themselves to the public, the media, and the international film industry.
The Swiss Film Center will participate at the Berlinale events with an information booth, and in cooperation with the Locarno International Film Festival, it organizes a reception at the Swiss embassy in Berlin on Tuesday, Feb 11.
