Séverine Cornamusaz’s debut fiction film “Coeur animal”, honoured with the Swiss Film Prize Quartz 2010, and Serben Vladimir Perisic’s “Ordinary People”, a coproduction of Prince Film in Jura, will be competing for awards simultaneously at film festivals in Austria and the USA. The two films will be screened in the New Directors Competition at the 53rd San Francisco International Film Festival (April 22-May 6, 2010), as well as in Linz at the 7th CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival (April 20-25) in the European Competition.
The science-fiction film “Cargo” by Ivan Engler and Ralph Etter will also be screened in “The Late Show” at the festival in California, the longest-running film festival in the Americas. Films from Switzerland have been screened every year at the San Francisco International Film Festival, with “Pas douce” by Jeanne Waltz winning the FIPRESCI Prize in 2007 and “Nomad’s Land” the Golden Gate Award in the documentary film category in 2009.
The CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival Linz devotes its programme to young talent and contemporary tendencies in European filmmaking. The festival fosters relations with Switzerland as its neighbour: in 2009 it showcased the upswing of filmmaking in the French-speaking regions of Switzerland with films by directors Ursula Meier and Lionel Baier.
