Bakel Walden and Nicolas Steiner newly elected

Bakel Walden and Nicolas Steiner are the new members of the SWISS FILMS Board of Trustees. They bring with them a broad expertise in the media, streaming and film sectors, as well as an extensive national and international network in the audiovisual industry.

The SWISS FILMS Board of Trustees has elected two new members. Bakel Walden and Nicolas Steiner will join the eight-member Board of Trustees as of 2024.
 
Bakel Walden is a member of the Board of Directors and Head of Development and Offerings of the Swiss broadcasting union SRG. He is a specialist with extensive experience in the media and broadcasting sector and has held various positions in programme planning and development at international media companies. At SRG, his responsibilities include the development and maintenance of the Play Suisse streaming platform. He also holds a number of mandates, including member of Foundation Board of the “Fondation pour la création numérique”, Chairman of the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group and member of the Board of Directors of Mediapulse.
 
Nicolas Steiner is an award-winning international film director, writer and producer. In 2016, he won two German Film Awards and three Swiss Film Awards for his feature-length film ABOVE AND BELOW. Nicolas Steiner studied in Denmark (European Film College) and Germany (Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg), received a Fulbright scholarship to the San Francisco Art Institute and was Artist in Residence in Brooklyn, NY. For Netflix, Nicolas Steiner produced the original true crime series DIG DEEPER: THE DISAPPEARANCE OF BIRGIT MEIER, broadcast in 194 countries and 36 languages. He is currently working as director on the Swiss-German coproduction DO YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS, MR DROWAK (working title), starring Luna Wedler, Karl Markovics and Lars Eidinger, among others.

HC Vogel and Luc Schaedler, both members of the SWISS FILMS Board of Trustees since 2012, stepped down at the beginning of March due to the term limits. SWISS FILMS warmly thanks them for their long-standing commitment to Swiss film creation.

The SWISS FILMS foundation is the Swiss film promotion agency. On behalf of the Federal Office of Culture, SWISS FILMS strengthens the international distribution of Swiss films through support measures, promotional activities and communication measures.
