Swiss film premieres in Hof
20.10.2008
The 42nd Hof International Film Festival (October 21-26, 2008) will provide not only a prominent presence for Swiss filmmaking with the screening of six films, but also the stage for three of them to celebrate their international premieres: “Happy New Year” by Christoph Schaub (production: T&C Film, Zurich); “Day At The Sea” by Moritz Gerber (HesseGreutert, Zurich); and “Tandoori Love” by Oliver Paulus (Cobra Film, Zurich) will all be presented to a (foreign) audience for the first time in the Bavarian city of Hof.
Three other documentary films – “Desert – Who Is The Man?” by Felix Tissi (production: Balzli & Fahrer, Bern), “Glorious Exit” by Kevin Merz (Amka Film, Savosa) and “Nomad’s Land” by Gaël Metroz (production: Tipi’mage, Geneva), all of which celebrated their premieres in Amsterdam or in Paris and Nyon – will be screened to a German audience for the first time in Hof as well. Since it was founded 42 years ago, the Hof International Film Festival has been directed by Heinz Badewitz, the renowned authority on German and European independent filmmaking. The festival is regarded as one of the best platforms for film distribution in Germany.
In Christoph Schaub’s “Happy New Year”, men and women of various ages and social backgrounds are caught between the annual balance sheet and a strong compulsion to party. The film is prominently cast with the Shooting Stars Nils Althaus, Johanna Bantzer and Joel Basman, as well as Bruno Cathomas, Jörg Schneider and Katharina von Bock. It will be released in cinemas in the German-speaking region of Switzerland (distribution: Columbus) on November 13. Set in summer in Zurich, Moritz Gerber’s debut film “Day At The Sea” involves both crisis and sentimentality: Dave (Dominique Jann), a 30-year-old DJ and record storeowner, is torn between his ex-girlfriend Sarah (Doris Schefer) and 20-year-old Alice (Patricia Mollet-Mercier). Inspired by Bollywood melodramas, Oliver Paulus has set the romance in his third fiction “Tandoori Love” in Bernese Oberland: a local waitress falls in love with the chef for an Indian film crew. The film will be released in cinemas in the German-speaking region of Switzerland on January 8, 2009 (distribution: Filmcoopi).
