Swiss documentary films win awards in Nyon

Four Swiss film productions were front-runners at the award ceremony of the 16th Visions du Réel Film Festival in Nyon (April 15-21, 2010), garnering a total of five awards. The film “Aisheen (Still Alive in Gaza)” by Nicolas Wadimoff (production: Akka Films, Geneva) was screened in the international competition and won the “Buyens-Chagoll” Prize, endowed with CHF 5,000. Wadimoff’s film was also honoured with a special mention from the young-audience jury.
Two films produced by Docmine Productions (Zurich) were honoured with the Swiss awards: the film “Beyond This Place” by Kaleo La Belle, screened in the international competition, was honoured with the “Création” Prize from Suissimage and the Society of Swiss Writers (SSA), amounting to CHF 10,000; and Jacqueline Zünd’s film “Goodnight Nobody” was screened in the “Regards Neufs” competition and won the George Foundation Prize for Best Newcomer Film, amounting to CHF 10,000.
The short film “Cotonov Vanished” by Andreas Fontana, a graduate from HEAD, the Geneva University of Art and Design, was screened in the “First Steps” section and presented the “Loterie Romande Vaud et Genève” Prize (CHF 2,500). In addition, Swiss director Nicolas Humbert won the Télévision Suisse Romande Prize – “Perspectives d’un doc” – for his film project “Guerrilla Gardening ou la reconquête des villes”, produced by Akka Films in Geneva.
