Swiss documentary films at Torino Film Festival
21.11.2007
The 25th Torino Film Festival, which runs from November 23 – December 1, 2007, is presenting two long-playing documentary films by Swiss directors: the Argentinean-Italian co-production “La Nación Mapuce” by Fausta Quattrini from Ticino (production: Fondazione La Fabbrica, Losone) will participate in the “Italiana.Doc” competition, which awards prizes amounting to 15,000 euros. In addition, the Italian-Swiss co-production “Vogliamo anche le rose” by Alina Marazzi (co-production: Ventura Film, Meride), which made its premiere on the Piazza Grande in Locarno, will be screened in the “Italian Panorama” in Torino.
In her film “La Nación Mapuce”, Fausta Quattrini portrays the struggle of the indigenous folk in Patagonia for the respect of their rights which have been guaranteed, in principle, by the Argentinean State in its constitution since 1994. The territory constitutes a substantial element of the Mapuce identity and has been continually subjected to the Western logic of maximizing profit by exploiting natural resources: vast surfaces of land, water reserves, oil, minerals and a wealth of biodiversity.
The film festival in Torino is dedicated to searching out and discovering new talent in contemporary film and to documentary and experimental film productions. Together with Venice and Rome, it ranks among Italy’s three most important film festivals.
