Ruedi Gerber’s “Breath Made Visible” received an Honourable Mention in the Valley of the Docs section at the 32nd Mill Valley Film Festival in California (October 8-18, 2009). The New York- und Zurich-based film director Ruedi Gerber presented his film personally to the audience.
The Mill Valley Film Festival, founded by the California Film Institute in 1978, showcases independent and artistically demanding filmmaking from all over the world and is also known as an important meeting point for filmmakers. The festival does not have any competition per se, but presents awards in various festival sections. A total of 29 documentary films were screened in the Valley of the Docs section. Apart from “Breath Made Visible”, two other films received an Honourable Mention.

The film “Breath Made Visible” portrays the 89-year-old pioneer in dance, Anna Halprin. Her work as a choreographer has significantly shaped experimental post-modern dance. The film celebrated its premiere in the Critics’ Week section of this year’s film festival in Locarno. It will be released mid-January in cinemas in the German-speaking region of Switzerland (distribution: Rialto Film).
