Swiss documentaries in the spotlight of the BAFICI
The 17th Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente BAFICI (15 to 25 April 2015) is devoting a prominent platform to Swiss documentaries in various of its sections.

Two documentaries have been programmed in the International Competition of the renowned Argentinian film festival: “Above and Below” by Nicolas Steiner and the Swiss co-production “A German Youth” by Jean-Gabriel Périot. “A German Youth” premiered at the Berlinale and was then shown in Paris at the Filmfestival Cinéma du réel. The film can also be seen in Nyon at Visions du Réel on 18-19 April and in May at the DOK.fest in Munich. “Above and Below” premiered in Rotterdam and was then shown in Saarbrücken at the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis. Next, the film will be on the programme of the prestigious documentary film festivals in Nyon (Visions du Réel), Toronto (Hot Docs) and Warsaw (Docs against Gravity Film Festival / ex. Planete+ Doc Film Festival). Nicolas Steiner will personally attend BAFICI.
The programme New Swiss Documentary, developed in cooperation with SWISS FILMS, will present an additional six Swiss documentary films with impressive festival careers: “Broken Land” in the presence of filmmakers Stéphanie Barbey and Luc Peter, “Dark Star – HR Giger's World” by Belinda Sallin, “Iraqi Odyssey” by Samir, “The Shelter” by Fernand Melgar, “Padrone e sotto” by Michele Cirigliano and “Sleepless in New York” by Christian Frei. “The Shelter” and “Iraqi Odyssey” can also be seen in the Human Rights Competition section.
The animated short “Prose du Transsibérien” by David Epiney is in the line-up of the Avant-Garde and Genre Competition section. Epiney will also personally present his film in Buenos Aires. Nicolas Wadimoff’s “Spartiates” and the Swiss co-productions “They Chased Me Through Arizona” by Matthias Huser as well as “Vergine giurata” by Laura Bispuri will be presented in the Panorama section.
