Swiss cinema and television films in Biarritz

The 20th Festival International des Programmes Audiovisuels (FIPA) in Biarritz, taking place from January 23-28, 2007, presents five long and three short Swiss productions in different competition sections. The event, which focuses mainly on audiovisual productions, shows the feature film “Havarie” by Xavier Koller (Production: C-Films, Zurich) in the “Fictions” competition. In the “Grand reportages et faits de société” section, the new documentary films “Ceci est mon royaume/This Is My Kingdom” (Rita productions, Geneva), and “Paradis fiscal, enfer social” by Mauro Losa (Production: TSR, Geneva) are in the running for an award, while in the “Situations de la création européenne” series, the Swiss co-production “Shanghai, Shanghai!” by Michelangelo Gandolfi (Co-production: TSI, Lugano) will be part of the program.
“Havarie” is the most recent film by Swiss director Xavier Koller, who lives in Los Angeles, California. Along with 14 films, it is competing for the “Golden FIPA”. Johanna Bantzer (2005 Swiss Shooting Star, “Straehl”, “Herr Goldstein”) plays the role of the environmental activist Beatrice.
The new documentary film “This Is My Kingdom” by Geneva resident Daniel Schweizer follows the traces of the obsessive art thief Stéphane Breitwieser from the French Alsace region, who stole pieces of art worth 15 million Euro from museums, galleries, and privat collections.
In the “Programmes courts” competition, the short films “Ashbrothers” by Steve Walker, “Play” by Georges Schwizgebel – both have been nominated for the 2007 Swiss Film Prize – as well as the Belgian-Swiss co-production “Le mensonge est une affaire de famille” by Etienne Rey will be shown. Jury member is, among others, Swiss filmmaker Peter Volkart, who was awarded the “Golden FIPA” for his film “Terra incognita” last year.
At the television market FIPATEL, which takes place in parallel to the festival, nineteen long Swiss films will be presented to a professional audience in Biarritz. SWISS FILMS will showcase Swiss filmmaking at an umbrella booth along with other agencies such as German Films and Wallonie Bruxelles Images.
