Success in Rotterdam for “Asshak – Tales from the Sahara”

“Asshak – Tales from the Sahara”, a new film by Ulrike Koch (Production: Catpics, Zurich), has started its international career. After the film’s premiere at the 33rd International Film Festival Rotterdam, it will soon be shown on movie screens in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Finland, and Sweden, while French, Danish, and Norwegian distribution companies are exhibiting great interest in the film along with several international film festivals.
With “Asshak – Tales from the Sahara”, a documentary film has been selected for the first time to participate in the international competition for the “Tiger Award” at the Rotterdam festival which previously was limited to fiction films. In his presentation, festival director Simon Field emphasized the narrative character of the film, which, in his words, renders the division between documentary and fiction obsolete.
The film’s worldwide distributor, Media Luna in Cologne, Germany, will present it to an international film industry gathering at the Berlinale Film Market.
“Asshak” is currently playing in Swiss movie theatres in Basel, Bern, Lucerne, Solothurn, and Zurich.
