Strong Swiss presence in Vancouver

30.09.2009

Switzerland is present with seven film productions and coproduction at the 28th Vancouver International Film Festival (October 1-16, 2009). The most important film festival in British Columbia will screen Peter Liechti’s film “The Sound Of Insects” in the Cinema of Our Time section as well as Daniel Young’s fiction film “Pinprick”, a Swiss-Hungarian coproduction (Kontraproduktion, Zurich). Two documentary films – “Nomad's Land” by Gaël Métroz and “Charlie Haden” by Reto Caduff – will be presented in the Nonfiction Features section. The audience selects the Best international Film.
Featured in the Spotlight on France section are films coproduced by Swiss firms: “Ivul” by English director Andrew Kötting, starring Jean-Luc Bideau in the role of the father, Andreï Ivul (Box Productions, Renens); and “Villa Amalia” by French director Benoît Jacquot (PointProd, Geneva), starring Isabelle Huppert as Ann, a musician. Rounding off the strong Swiss presence in Vancouver is Daniel Schweizer’s documentary film “Dirty Paradise”, which will be screened in The Way of Nature section.

The Vancouver International Film Festival draws a large audience from the western province of Canada and a multitude of film professionals.
