Shower of awards for Swiss films and co-productions

The fiction film “Tulpan” by Kazakh director Sergei Dvortsevoy was honoured with the Grand Prize at the 21st Tokyo International Film Festival (October 18-26, 2008). The prize amounted to 100,000 dollars; the film was co-produced in Switzerland (Cobra Film, Zurich). The director also won the Best Director Award, amounting to 5,000 dollars. On the same weekend, the Swiss short films – “René”, “Il resto di una storia” and “La main de l’ours” – won awards at various international festivals.
Tobias Nölle’s 30-minute film “René” won the award for Best Short Film and 2,500 dollars for the subtitling of the film at the 38th International Film Festival “Molodist” in Kiev (October 18-26). The 35-minute Ticinese documentary film “Il resto di una storia” by Antonio Prata, won the “Johnnie Walker Award”, amounting to 3,000 euros, at the 6th DocLisboa Lisbon International Documentary Festival (October 16-26). Marina Rosset’s short animation film “The Bear's Hand” was honoured with the prize for Best Film in the “Children and Youth” category at the 35th Ekotop International Festival (October 20-24) in Slovakia, the theme of which is sustainable development.
Accompanied by the leading actor in his film “Tulpan”, the Kazakh director Sergei Dvortsevoy attended the award ceremony in Tokyo. A six-member international jury presented the Russian-German- Swiss co-production with two main awards.
The short film "René” will be presented in conjunction with SF’s Delicatessen Special “Short Film Festival Winterthur" at midnight on November 3.
