The 13th Muestra International Documentary Encounter in Bogotá is honouring Fernand Melgar with a showcase of his works. From November 15-19, 2011, the filmmaker will present his three award-winning feature-length documentary films – “Vol spécial,” “La forteresse” and “EXIT – le droit de mourir” and also offer a masterclass. Furthermore, the festival will open with “La forteresse.” The showcasing of Melgar’s works is part of the cultural exchange programme with Latin America initiated in 2010 by SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency.

Ricardo Restrepo, the festival director of Muestra, is convinced that Melgar's films shed light on social and political issues which also relate to reality in Columbia. He invited the director to offer a masterclass on the theme of "The cinematic subject, the captive subject." In addition, Melgar will discuss his work with audiences at the National Library in Bogotá and the university.

The films will be on tour following the Muestra and screened in ten further cities outside the national capital, including Cali and Medellin.

With his showcase in Bogotá, Melgar falls in line with Frederick Wiseman, Nicolas Philibert, Patricio Guzmán, Mikael Renov and Alan Berliner, all of whom had presented their works in previous years. The Muestra is vastly influential on the Andean countries of Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru.
