Two Swiss films received awards at the 27th Miami International Film Festival (5 to 14 March 2010): the jury for the competition “Cutting The Edge” awarded the “Grand Prize” to “Pepperminta” (producers Hugofilm, Zurich), the first film by the Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist. The co-production “Ordinary People” by the Serbian director Vladimir Perisic (producers Prince Film, Undervelier-JU) received the “Cineuropa Prize” as the best European film which was awarded for the first time in 2010. This symbolic prize offers visibility of the film on the Internet portal Cineuropa.org valued at 5,000 dollars.
The “Cutting The Edge” section, in which “Pepperminta” was a contender, presented a selection of provocative films which tests the emotional limits of viewers to the extreme. The “Grand Jury Prize” is the second international award for the film premiered at the Mostra in Venice in 2009. The long film that was shown in cinemas in German and French-speaking Switzerland also participated in the renowned Sundance Festival for independent films at Park City as well as in the Rotterdam Film Festival.
“Ordinary People”, which was shown for the first time at the “Semaine de la Critique” in Cannes in 2009, has already won several prizes. The Cineuropa Prize awarded to it was handed over by Roberto Cicutto, the President of Cinecittà Holdings and owner of the legendary Cinecittà studio in Rome.
This year, the Miami International Film Festival, whose Artistic Director is Tiziana Finzi, will be presenting 115 films from 45 countries.
