Maria Brendle’s The Stowaway garnered two awards at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (Children's Jury Prize: Live-action Short Film & the Adult Jury Prize: Live-action Short Film) on November 2 and is thus in the running for an Oscar nomination.
Alongside the five Swiss short films in the running for an Oscar (already announced) is Parvaneh by Talkhon Hamzavi, last year’s winner of a Student Academy Award (Silver Medal - Foreign Category). The film qualified for an Oscar nomination by winning an award at last year’s Foyle Film Festival in Ireland.
This means that seven Swiss short films in three categories have now qualified: two animation films (Animated Short Film), three fiction films (Live Action Short Film) and two documentary films (Documentary - Short Subject).
