Numerous awards for Swiss films

Tobias Nölle’s half-hour short film “René” won two awards at the 22nd Leeds International Film Festival (November 4-16, 2008): the “Grand Jury Prize” in the Best International Short Film category and the award for Best Short Film in the Fiction category. The jury of the 23rd Festival Mar del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina (November 6-16) presented the “Silver Astor” for Best Actress to French actress Isabelle Huppert for her role in the film “Home”, Ursula Meier’s first fiction film for the cinema. The film “Tulpan” by the Kazakh director Sergei Dvortsevoy, (co-production: Cobra Film, Zurich) was honoured with the Special Prize for Best Director, amounting to 7,500 euros, as well as the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury of the Signis and Interfilm awards at the 18th Festival of East European Cinema in Cottbus (November 11-16).
The ADF Jury of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, comprised of three members of the Argentinean Photography Authors Association, presented the Cinematography Prize to French cinematographer Agnès Godard, who filmed “Home” by Ursula Meier. The documentary film “La mere” by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov won the “Eurodoc” Award at the European Film Festival in Seville (November 7-15), amounting to 30,000 euros for the Spanish distribution.
