Notable appearance by Romed Wyder in Rotterdam
24.01.2005
Romed Wyder’s feature film “Absolut” (2004) will be screened – as previously announced by SWISS FILMS on 13 January - at the 34th International Film Festival in Rotterdam, which takes place from 26 January to 6 February 2005. Together with seven other young European filmmakers whose films are being screened in the Tiger Award Competition or, as is the case with “Absolut”, in the “Cinema of the Future: Sturm und Drang” section, director Romed Wyder from western Switzerland has the opportunity to meet with the audience. His appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, 3 February, in conjunction with the “Passions & Promises” section of the program.
Within the framework of “Passions & Promises”, each evening is devoted to the introduction of one of the eight directors who have been selected by European Film Promotion – the European network of national film promotion agencies – and by the International Film Festival in Rotterdam. Clips of their own films are presented with those from works which have had a significant influence on their filmmaking. This year’s “Evening Talks”, which is being held for the second time, will be moderated by the well-known Dutch television journalist Wilfried De Jong. A Swiss filmmaker took part in this new event last year: Ulrike Koch, whose film “Ässhäk – Tales from the Sahara” was screened in the competition during the 33rd edition of this festival and opened in cinemas in five cities in Holland last week.
The film “Absolut”, which premiered in the “Filmmakers of the Present” section in Locarno in 2004, will be released in the French-speaking region of Switzerland in April (distributor: Frenetic Films). The film will also be released in cinemas in Germany in the autumn by distributor “Neue Visionen”, who launched Wyder’s previous film “Pas de café, pas de télé, pas de sexe”.
Zurich, 25 January 2005
