New interest for Swiss films in Germany
30.11.2006
Whereas Swiss productions have only rarely been shown on German movie screens until now, a total of five Swiss films will be released in German cinemas in December of 2006. Among them are «Vitus» by Fredi M. Murer, «Mein Name ist Eugen» by Michael Steiner – each with more than one hundred film copies – «Lenz» by Thomas Imbach, «The Short Life of Jose Antonio Gutierrez» by Heidi Specogna, and «Snow White» by Samir.
The series will kick off with «Lenz» by Thomas Imbach, which the «Freunde der deutschen Kinemathek» will present in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Nürnberg on November 30, 2006, followed by screenings in additional German cities. The Swiss-German documentary film «The Short Life of Jose Antonio Gutierrez» by Heidi Specogna will be released on December 7 by «Peripher» distributions. Shortly before the holidays, on December 21, «Schwarz-Weiss» film distributions will launch «Vitus», with director Fredi M. Murer and actor Bruno Ganz having visited large German cities on their promotional tour in November. Samir’s «Snow White», whose main actor Carlos Leal accompanied pre-premiere events in Leipzig, will hit the movie theatres before the end of the year on December 28, 2006 (Distribution: Stardust). Also launched on December 28 will be «Mein Name ist Eugen» (Distribution: MFA+), which has been the most successful Swiss film for the past 28 years.
