30.05.2007

Bettina Oberli’s “Late Bloomers” (Production: Catpics, Zurich) is one of fifteen films competing for the Golden Dolphin which will be bestowed at the 23rd International Film Festival Festroia in Setúbal. Actresses Stephanie Glaser and Monica Gubser will be in attendance for its presentation. The film “Fraulein” by Andrea Staka (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) will be shown in the “Primeiras Obreras” section, with twelve “first-time features” in the running for an award. The festival takes place in the Portuguese port city of Setúbal from June 1 – 10, 2007. It focuses primarily on European film production and independent international filmmaking.
With this invitation to participate in the Portuguese festival, the audience favorite “Late Bloomers” has been given the opportunity to shine again on an international stage, in addition to its release in German movie theatres. The comedy sold 550,000 movie tickets in Switzerland, and has been seen by more than 100,000 viewers in Germany.

The award-winning feature film “Fraulein” is continuing its festival tour, which began successfully in Locarno a year ago where the film received the Golden Leopard. It has been shown at important film festivals, including Tribeca in New York, Sundance Festival in Park City, as well as festivals in Buenos Aires, London, Istanbul, Pusan, Osaka, and Hong Kong. With her portrait of three women from former Yugoslavia who are of different generations and have an encounter in Switzerland, Staka has reached a strong result with over 65,000 moviegoers who saw her film.

In Setúbal, Swiss films have been presented regularly in competition sections since 2003. In 2004, the film “When The Right One Comes Along” won the Prize for Best New Talent in the “First Works” section.
