19.09.2006
«Jeu/Play», the most recently completed animated film by internationally acknowledged director Georges Schwizgebel, will be part of the competition at the renowned Ottawa International Animation Festival, taking place for the 30th time in the Canadian capital from September 20 – 24, 2006. Along with others, it is in the running for the «Nelvana Grand Prize» in the «Independent Short Animation» category.
The Ottawa International Animation Festival is one of the most important animated film festivals worldwide, along with Annecy, Zagreb, and Hiroshima. The festival was founded in 1975 by the Canadian Film Institute and, in addition to the film program, it offers an «Animarket Trade Show» this year, with a variety of workshops and the 3rd Television Animation Conference.
«Jeu/Play», the 14th production by this master of animated art from Geneva, builds itself in visual, geometric rhythms on Serge Prokofiev’s Scherzo to Piano Concerto No. 2, interpreted by Schwizgebel’s son. «Jeu/Play» celebrated its premiere at the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August 2006, it was invited to the Festivals des Films du Monde Festival in Montreal, and it received a special prize by the jury at the Hiroshima animated film festival. Schwizgebel’s film will be shown in Leipzig, Germany, in October, and in Utrecht, Netherlands, in November, 2006.
In Switzerland, the film has secured a distributor and will be shown in Western Switzerland ahead of the feature film «Das Fraulein» by Andrea Staka, starting September 20, 2006. In Geneva, «Jeu» will celebrate its premiere on September 29, 2006, as part of the 2006 Short Film Nights tour.
