Grand Prix in Teheran for “The Fortress”

The film “The Fortress” by Fernand Melgar from Lausanne was honoured with the Grand Prix at the 2nd “Cinema Verite” – Iran International Documentary Film Festival in Teheran (October 15-19, 2008). Ten films from four continents participated in the “Over 60 Minutes” section of the international competition for this award, which amounts to 10,000 euros.
The international jury summarized ist motivation for selection the film as follows: “The film handsomely presents one of the world’s greatest challenges: immigration. With a universal and current story, the director takes us on a journey which brings home the idea that each asylum seeker has a story.”
The film was released in the French-speaking region of Switzerland five weeks ago and has been extremely well received by the audience: ticket sales of over 15,000 admissions have already been recorded for “The Fortress”. The film will be released in cinemas in the German-speaking region of Switzerland in spring 2009 (distribution: Look Now!)
