GOLITAH in Busan

The Flash Forward section, which shows non-Asian films by promising up-and-coming talents, is screening GOLIATH, Dominik Locher's second feature film as an international premiere. The film was produced by CognitoFilms together with the Zurich University of the Arts, SRF and SRG SSR and celebrated its world premiere in the international competition in Locarno. World sales are being handled by WIDE in Paris. In the lead role, Sven Schelker (Swiss Shooting Star Berlinale 2015) plays an expectant father who is addicted to anabolic steroids and gradually loses control over his life.

The Belgian-French-Swiss feature film BITTER FLOWERS by Olivier Meys celebrates its world premiere in the same section. It was coproduced by P.S. Productions and RTS. The movie centres around a young Chinese woman trying her luck in Paris. Both films are among the eleven nominees for the Flash Forward Audience Award.

World Cinema with two Swiss Coproductions

The World Cinema section will screen L’INTRUSA by Italian director Leonardo di Costanzo. The film premiered in Cannes 2017 in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs programme. The Italian-Swiss-French feature film was coproduced by Ticino-based Amka Films and shows the moral conflict of a Neapolitan social worker and her fight against the criminal mentality.

As an Asian premiere, World Cinema further presents the new, digitally restored version of RISE AND FALL OF A SMALL FILM COMPANY (GRANDEUR ET DÉCADENCE D'UN PETIT COMMERCE DE CINÉMA) by Jean-Luc Godard. The French-Swiss coproduction from 1986 with Jean-Pierre Léaud was originally made for television and was already presented out of competition at the Locarno Festival in 2017.

EUROPE! goes Busan Focus on European Talents

The organisation European Film Promotion (EFP), of which SWISS FILMS is a member, showcases European films and talents within the programme EUROPE! goes Busan (formerly Opening Doors). Thirteen filmmakers and actors will travel to Busan for this networking event and meet representatives of the Asian film business, the press and audiences. This year, with the support of SWISS FILMS, director Dominik Locher and the producers Rajko Jazbek and Dario Schoch (CognitoFilms) will attend with their film GOLIATH.

EFP further supports European world sales companies in Asia with their Film Sales Support and a European Umbrella booth at the Asian Film Market in Busan, which runs parallel to the festival.
