German Film Award 2013: LOLA for box-office hit “More Than Honey”

Markus Imhoof’s documentary film “More Than Honey,” coproduced by Thelma Film in Jura, received the German Film Award Lola 2013 for Best Documentary Film. The Swiss-German-Austrian coproduction has already numerous awards: the Swiss Film Award, the Romy in Vienna, the Bavarian Film Award, and the Best Documentary at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, among others.

Most highly endowed cultural award in Germany
The German Film Award is the most prestigious and, with its monetary prize amounting to almost 3 million euros, the most highly endowed German cultural award. Following the category of Best Feature Film (EUR 500,000), the category of Best Documentary Film (EUR 200,000) is the most highly endowed recognition for a film. The monetary prize went to the film’s German producer for a new production. “More Than Honey” was also nominated for an award in the Best Editing category (Anne Fabini).

“More Than Honey” scores worldwide
Markus Imhoof’s documentary film “More Than Honey” has had a remarkable cinema and festival career since its premiere on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August 2012. With ticket sales of over 230,000 in Switzerland, it is the most frequently seen Swiss documentary film and now ranks 12^th on the list of most successful Swiss film in the cinema (recorded since 1975). Furthermore, the film has already been  – or will be – screened in cinemas in 28 countries. The film’s theatrical release in the USA is scheduled for June. “More Than Honey” has already been invited to more than 30 international festivals.

“Das Boot ist voll”
Markus Imhoof has had success with documentary and fiction films in equal measure: his fiction film “Das Boot ist voll” (1981) was nominated for an Oscar and ranks among the 20 most frequently seen Swiss film productions, with ticket sales amounting to approximately 160,000 in Switzerland.
